ERICA

NICKOL

Erica Nickol is a sculptor who finds her inspiration in precariousness, fragility, and tension. She interested in the capacity that visual representations of these forces have to physically resonate with us.  Nickol creates sculptures that combine porcelain with found objects and steel, wire, rope, and wood. Her work resemblances how the skin is stretched. The porcelain looks almost like the skin which has found- objects inside as a structure beneath the skin trying to push through the surface. It's interesting how the tension in each of her work is different from what I thought it might be. The fold of Nickol's work almost looks like the fold of the skin but with a surreal twist to it.

With this, I can explore more deeply into the surrealism of each fold not restricting myself to what it should look like. Instead, I'd try to be more open to each detail that has happened on the drawing. Open up to new possibilities that could be found through out the practise.
