KEVIN
FRANCIS GRAY

Irish sculptor Kevin Francis Gray works primarily with bronze and marble to create idealised figures draped with fabric in the style of Neoclassical or Baroque figurative sculptures. His work, unlike gods or royalty that one might expect to see rendered in such incredible detail, instead creates anonymous depictions of regular individuals he encounters in his life, often people struggling with addiction or other difficult, real-world issues.
Instead of using cutting edged technology for his sculpture, He delicately uses his hand to form the details of his figures. Similarly , I also choose to threads each details carefully with my hands since I believes that it can conjure the message that I try to communicate through the work. His sculpture is also a good example of how human body can be merge with draperies of clothing. The details of the structure beneath the clothe is clearly shown, yet at the same time it almost merge with the draperies beyond the structure. Both the figure and the 'skin' or clothe that are protecting it are assimilating each other and changed the outside surface context into one of the organs of the figure. From this, I looked back into my work. I could see the opportunity to merge what is underneath with the skin that are covering it in a more subtle way. Blending the boundaries between what is inside or outside completely.
